article imageRapper Eminem lowers bar with rap about punching Lana Del Rey

By Marcus Hondro     Nov 11, 2014 in Entertainment
Eminem is the biggest selling rapper ever, period, but the man might also be the most offensive, and least sensitive. The Detroit rapper made headlines again by rapping about violence to women, this time picking on pop singer Lana Del Rey.
In the past Eminem, 42, has made derogatory comments about women, and made comments about violence toward women, sometimes specific women. He has targeted in his rap lyrics celebrity women before, including Christina Aguilera, Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Amy Winehouse. This time it's the 29-year-old Del Rey.
"I'll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice," Eminem raps in the video to promote his new greatest hits compilation. "Like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance. 'Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens."
Eminem refers to NFL player Ray Rice
In the 'Ray Rice' line, Eminem boastfully refers to Baltimore Ravens football player Rice, suspended by the league for punching his then-fiance (and now wife) Janay out cold, doing so in a hotel elevator and then dragging her out and trying to cover it up. The incident was caught on video.
In the same freestyle rap in which he raps about punching Lana Del Rey he makes a derogatory gay-reference to CNN journalist Anderson Cooper. The rap also has other lyrics that would easily offend, such as the one about pushing a woman's ass through a plate glass window.
Eminem compared to Snoop Dogg
Lots of criticism from many celebs and others toward him for the rap. The most apropos may be one from New York radio personality Charlamagne Tha God, who tweeted "Getting mad at Eminem for saying something that may offend in a rap is like arresting Snoop Dogg for marijuana possession."
It's not known why Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, picked on Del Rey, whose real name is Elizabeth Grant; in a 2012 interview, Del Rey called Eminem a "genius." She hasn't responded to the rap about punching her in the face twice.
