Video: Philippines’ Pia Wurtzbach was crowned Miss Universe

But before her confirmation as the real winner, program host Steve Harvey had already announced Miss Colombia contestant Ariadna Gutierrez as the Miss Universe 2015 winner.

Miss Colombia had already accepted the Miss Universe crown and was visibly delighted on her victory. Unfortunately it was a short lived experience for the Colombian beauty as she wore the crown for just four minutes. Her reign had to end abruptly as Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines, had to wear the crown as the real winner.

It turned out that Harvey had mistakenly announced a wrong winner and apologized to the audience and to the contestants for the mistake.

“I have to apologize. The first runner up is Colombia.” said Harvey, who admitted it was his fault. “Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines.”

After the show, Harvey, who is best known as the host of TV show “Family Feud,” used his Twitter account to apologize again to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines.

“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible,” Harvey said on his Twitter page.

Pageant organizers of Miss Universe has also apologize to the two top winners for the mix up.

“Unfortunately, a live telecast means that human error can come into play. We witnessed that tonight when the wrong winner was initially announced. Our sincerest apologies to Miss Universe Colombia, Miss Universe Philippines, their families, and fans. We congratulate miss Universe Philippines as Miss Universe 2015,” the pageant organizers said.

Wurtzbach, who is an actress and model in the Philippines is the third Miss Universe winner from the Philippines. Glortia Diaz was the first Miss Universe from the Philippines when she won the pageant in 1969 while Margie Moran was Miss Universe 1973.
