Showtime has debuted a brand-new trailer for "Penny Dreadful," its upcoming psycho-sexual drama from film director Sam Mendes.
Penny Dreadful — which is due to premiere on the channel next month — is set to bring together a number of characters from history's greatest horror stories; characters such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein creature and Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray.
Produced by Sam Mendes (Skyfall) and written by John Logan (Skyfall), the series stars Josh Hartnett (40 Days and 40 Nights), Eva Green (Casino Royale) and former James Bond Timothy Dalton, all of who appear in the trailer (see above).
Guest stars will include former Doctor Who companion Billie Piper, Anna Chancellor, formerly of The Hour — the 1960's set BBC drama series that also starred Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) and Romola Garai (Glorious 39) — and Helen McCrory (Skyfall), the actor married to Homeland's Damian Lewis and who was most recently was seen playing the mistress of Tommy Cooper (David Threlfall) in the ITV drama Tommy Cooper: Not like That, like This.
Directors for the first season include Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible), Coky Giedroyc (The Virgin Queen), James Hawes (Doctor Who) and Dearbhla Walsh (Little Dorrit).
Up-to-date information on the series can be accessed via the Penny Dreadful Production Blog.
Penny Dreadful begins, in the US, on May 11; and is due to follow in the UK, on Sky Atlantic, shortly afterwards.
