article imageOscar Isaac will play villain in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Fox announces its latest casting deal with Oscar Isaac signing on to be the title villain in the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’
Casting a villain — especially one with which some viewers are already familiar — can be a daunting task for any production. If the villain isn’t perfect, nothing else will work. But based on its latest announcement, it doesn’t look like 20th Century Fox will have any issues in this area. Oscar Isaac will play En Sabah Nur, also known as “The First One” or Apocalypse, in the upcoming sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Isaac had been in a number of Hollywood movies prior to last year’s Inside Llewyn Davis, but the Coen brothers picture finally gained him notice in addition to several best actor nominations. This year he stars opposite Jessica Chastain in A Most Violent Year and he’s landed a role in next year’s Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. He also has a lead part in David Simon’s upcoming HBO miniseries, Show Me a Hero. It’s not surprising his next step is to join many of his contemporaries by adding a comic book movie to his résumé.
Director Bryan Singer says X-Men: Apocalypse will be the most destructive movie in the franchise. Apocalypse was born thousands of years ago and considers himself a god. Reteaming with writer Simon Kinberg, the First Class trilogy will conclude in the 1980s and feature younger versions of celebrated characters such as Cyclops and Jean Grey as well as a romance between Magneto and Mystique. Isaac joins returning cast members Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. The film is set for release in May 2016.
