Op-Ed: Things to look forward to at E3 2015

Sunday the gaming world will begin a three day long love-fest with game developers and designers as well as the console companies Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. This year, E3 will have some very big changes and a couple firsts. I’ll discuss some of the changes and firsts with my top reasons to be excited about E3 this year.

First of all, the PC gaming community finally gets its own press conference! E3 has been dominated by consoles for years and now PCs will get the love that most people believe they deserve. Inside of this huge change is another big announcement; Blizzard, the company responsible for World of Warcraft, will finally be stepping out of their own convention, “Blizzcon,” to make an appearance at E3.

Secondly, some publishers will be having their own conferences this year. Bethesda will kick things off for E3 tonight at 6:30 p.m. PST (9:30 p.m. EST). They have already announced their new game Fallout 4 which will undoubtedly make a strong appearance in their conference. The company will likely talk about Elder Scrolls Online and a sequel to Dishonored as well.

The second publisher stepping into the ring this year is Square Enix which is most known for the Final Fantasy series of games here in the states. They have also worked on the Hitman series and a few others such as Deus Ex and Tomb Raider. They hope to stand up equal to Ubisoft, EA, and Activision as a brand and make some noise at E3.

Lastly, the unknown. In recent years it has become more and more difficult for developers to keep secrets heading into E3. However, each year there is a piece of news that made its way into E3 without notice. That is something to be excited about and a reason to watch this year. Well, that and all of the amazing game trailers and developer interviews.
