article imageOp-Ed: Adam Sandler is the world's most overpaid actor

By Tim Sandle     Dec 25, 2014 in Entertainment
Adam Sandler sits in top place on Forbes' list of Hollywood's most overpaid actors for the second consecutive year. Find out who is bubbling under in second and third place.
Forbes compiles the list of the most overpaid actors each year. The standings are decided by Forbes magazine from a review of an actors' estimated pay compared with the budget and revenue of the last three films they starred in prior to June 2014. On this basis, below Sandler, coming in at second and third this year are Johnny Depp and Ben Stiller.
Adam Sandler's three movies that propelled him to the top of the weak links chart were:
Grown Ups 2
Jack and Jill
That's My Boy
With these three movies, Forbes estimates that for every dollar that Sandler was paid, the movies took $3.20 for the studio. Depp managed a return rate of $4.10. This related to the outings The Lone Ranger, which was dire and Dark Shadows, which was far better. Stiller managed a return rate of $4.80, as result of Tower Heist and The Watch. Night at the Museum: Secrets of the Tomb, came out too late to be counted.
Just below the top three were Ryan Reynolds, returning $4.90; and surprisingly Tom Hanks, at $5.20 thanks in part to the disappoint performance of Cloud Atlas.
The rest of the top ten, the BBC reports, consisted of Will Ferrell ($6.60), Channing Tatum ($6.70), Denzel Washington ($6.90), Sandra Bullock ($9.00) and Ben Affleck ($9.37) .
Compared with the three poor performing actors, Emma Stone returned an around $80.70 for every $1 she was paid for her last three movies.
Now, dollar returns doe snot necessarily indicate that an actor has made a worthy movie or one that, in years to come, will be regarded as a classic. That said, will any one be watching Sandler's efforts ten years from now?
