OK Go embrace robots, umbrellas in intricate new video

The music-video wizards OK Go are at it again, drawing from their seemingly endless well of creativity for their latest video, “I Won’t Let You Down,” from their latest album Hungry Ghosts.

OK Go are no strangers to intricately-choreographed music videos, but compared to “This Too Shall Pass,” this video takes the concept up a few notches.

The video opens with the four band members riding around on miniature robots, which Laughing Squid identifies as a Honda UNI-CUB, a personal mobility device.

After a few choreographed moves on the robots, the camera follows the band outside and a crane shot shows a group of umbrella-wielding people creating intricate designs. As the video goes on, more and more colours of umbrellas are added to the mix, and as the camera zooms farther and farther out, the umbrellas almost seem to resemble lights.

Musically, “I Won’t Let You Down” is a dance-ier number than OK Go’s last video, “The Writing’s on the Wall.” The song embraces synthesizers and bass to a large degree to give the song a disco feel.

The Verge reports that the video was directed by Morihiro Harano, well-known in Japan for his creative commercials.
