article imageMTV Movie Awards nominations inject some fun

By Tim O'Brien     Mar 4, 2015 in Entertainment
Enough is never enough when it comes to award shows. Now come the MTV Movie Awards. Not even a month reprieve from the Oscars and the end of the award season, it starts up again.
The MTV Awards are silly and fun, too, and to some, better reflect the taste of the public. However, the Oscars are not a popularity contest, but rather the best of the best, or so they want.
The Oscars cap off a long award season for movies, but during that span, the Grammys come along, too. So, after the Oscars, there should be an unspoken and written rule that indicates a slow down. A lull, if you will.
Anyway, leading the way for the MTV Movie Awards with seven nominations each are "Guardians of the Galaxy," "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Neighbors." One interesting note here is that they, too, have eight nominees for Movie of the Year. Of that number, four were up for Oscar.
Meanwhile, the top-grossing films of 2014 are included with "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" and "Guardians of the Galaxy." Now, take note that "American Sniper" is about to pass both of them and take over that top spot in 2014.
