‘Most Interesting Man in the World’ taking a one-way trip to Mars

Dos Equis isn’t actually halting the ad campaign but is instead retiring Johnathan Goldsmith, the man who has kept our interest in the Mexican beer since 2007.

In the last Dos Equis ad campaign video released on Wednesday featuring Goldsmith, “The Most Interesting Man in the World” is being seen off as he prepares for a one-way trip to Mars. The ad is fantastic and carries through with the “interesting” persona the character has turned into over the past nine years.

“Fans can rest assured that Dos Equis will reveal a new Most Interesting Man in the World in 2016 as this is not the end of the campaign, but an evolution,” the company said in a statement, according to CNN Money.

In the final 60-second ad, his eminence is seen strolling through a huge crowd of people representing the world. He is seen being adored and bid a fond farewell by bikers, monks, generals, beautiful women, of course, and a grizzly bear. Then we see him enter a spaceship, and then it launches, taking the “Most Interesting Man in the World” on a new adventure.

At the end of the ad, the narrator says, “His only regret is not knowing what regret feels like.”

“From superheroes to super-spies, our fans are accustomed to and enjoy different takes on the same character. We know ‘The Most Interesting Man in the World’ will continue to endure and grow, as the character’s story is bigger than one individual,” Andrew Katz, VP of marketing for Dos Equis, said in a statement, as reported by WTVR.com Richmond.

It seems that Goldsmith will continue to be “The Most Interesting Man” even after he retires. He was a garbage truck driver before he got his start in Hollywood westerns. He also raises funds to remove landmines in Cambodia and has volunteered for the Mines Advisory Group, according to an interview with NPR. One thing is for sure, when Goldsmith was picked to do the “Most Interesting Man” ads, they helped Dos Equis sales to triple over the last nine years

We are left to wonder what Goldsmith will do on the Red Planet. Has he been sent ahead of the Mars One Colony to prepare the way, or what? Maybe he has secret plans given him by Dos Equis to begin construction of a brewery so that the beer company will have a jump on producing Martian Beer, the “Most Interesting Beer in the Universe.”

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend Karen Graham, who served as Editor-at-Large at Digital Journal. She was 78 years old. Karen's view of what is happening in our world was colored by her love of history and how the past influences events taking place today. Her belief in humankind's part in the care of the planet and our environment has led her to focus on the need for action in dealing with climate change. It was said by Geoffrey C. Ward, "Journalism is merely history's first draft." Everyone who writes about what is happening today is indeed, writing a small part of our history.
