Michael Jackson duet with Justin Timberlake debuts online (Video)

By Anne Sewell     May 4, 2014 in Entertainment
A posthumous release of Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake's duet online received an excellent response on Thursday. From the album 'Xscape,' "Love Never Felt So Good" is just one of eight tracks to be released shortly.
The reworked song debuted during the first iHeartRadio Music Awards and the original recording dates back to 1983. While Johnny Mathis recorded a version of the song a year later, it is only now that Jackson's version of "Love Never Felt So Good" will be released with seven other tracks on his posthumous album, Xscape between May 9 and 14, depending on in which area of the world you are.
Many expected Timberlake to introduce the song at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, but it was Usher who did the honors, emulating the moves of Jackson with his back up dancers to tumultuous applause.
It has taken some time to put the album together, with executive producer L.A. Reid, chairman and CEO of Epic Records, going through around four decades' of Jackson music material, seeking songs with completed vocal tracks.
According to Rolling Stone, once eight almost complete possibilities were found they were given to several producers to give them a "fresh, contemporary" sound. The producers involved in the project included Stargate, Timbaland, Jerome "Jroc" Harmon and John McClain. Another producer involved was Rodney Jerkins, who reportedly worked on the original version of "Love Never Felt So Good" with Jackson.
"For me it wasn't about the label, it wasn't about the estate's approval; it wasn't about all of that," he said. "I had a personal relationship with Michael, (so) it was about, 'What would he want from this? What would he want it to sound like now?'" Jerkins said.
Jerkins added that he started work with Jackson on the song "Xscape" back in 1999 while they were recording the Invincible album. He apparently looked at the track again in 2003 and has now retouched the song for the new album.
"Even when Michael was alive, we never stopped working on the song 'Xscape,'" he said. "It was one of those songs where he specifically said to me, 'It has to see the light of day one day.'"
And it has finally done just that. While the standard version of the album will contain just the eight reworked tracks, a deluxe edition will also include the original versions of each song. The track list for the new album is as follows:
Love Never Felt So Good
Loving You
A Place With No Name
Slave To The Rhythm
Do You Know Where Your Children Are
Blue Gangsta
