Details of his casting had fallen below the radar but, thanks to eagle-eyed
Merlin fans, his presence in Season 4 of the hit American terrorism thriller was spotted in the latest trailer (see above) for the upcoming Season 4.
Digital Spy reports that James’s character is called Edgars and, going by the trailer, will share at least some screen time with Homeland lead Claire Danes, who plays CIA operative Carrie Mathison in the show.
Developed by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa,
Homeland is based on the Israeli series
Hatufim (
Prisoners of War), which was created by Gideon Raff.
Merlin, in which James played Prince (then King) Arthur,
ran for five seasons from 2008 and starred Colin Morgan in the title role.

While James has now joined
Homeland, Morgan is set to appear in the
second season of The Fall, the British serial-killer drama series that stars Jamie Dornan (who last year replaced Charlie Hunnam in the movie version of
Fifty Shades of Grey), and former
X Files alum, Gillian Anderson.
In June, it was announced that
Life of Pi actor
Suraj Sharma was joining the
Homeland cast up for Season 4; while, earlier this month, Ali Fazal revealed that
he had turned down an opportunity to take part in a workshop for the show.
Season 4 is set to premiere on Showtime in the US on October 5; with an expected UK start, on Channel 4, shortly afterwards.
