Former “Doctor Who” star Matt Smith has joined the cast for the forthcoming “Terminator” trilogy, it has been announced.
Rumours of Smith’s casting circulated earlier today, with Deadline reporting that he was likely to be involved.
According to the report, Smith has a small part in Terminator: Genesis, which is currently shooting; however, the report continues, saying that the role “will grow in the second and third films.”
By the end of this afternoon, as revealed by Den of Geek, Skydance confirmed the casting via their Twitter feed. “We don't have a TARDIS, but we do have a Time Lord: we're pleased to welcome Matt Smith to the cast of #Terminator,” the tweet read.
Smith, 32, quit Doctor Who in 2013, after four years in the title role. His successor, Peter Capaldi, 56, is currently filming his first season, to be screened later this year.
As well as Schwarzenegger and Smith, other Terminator 5 cast members include Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney.
Terminator: Genesis is directed by Alan Taylor and is due for release in 2015.
