The rumor mill can finally quell its churning — after much speculation, Lupita Nyong'o is finally confirmed to play a role in the newest installment of the "Star Wars" franchise.
Fanboys rejoice: Star Wars is getting that much-needed boost of estrogen you demanded.
Lupita Nyong’o has been announced to play a role in Star Wars: Episode 7, the latest chapter in the Star Wars mythos helmed by director J. J. Abrams. This news comes at the heels of an Oscar win for Nyong'o for her portrayal of the tragic Patsy in the 2013 film 12 Years a Slave.
Earlier this year, moviegoers also saw Nyong'o play a minor role in the LIam Neeson thriller Non-Stop.
Also joining the film is Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie. Christie will make an appearance on the silver screen later this year in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1.
“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII," Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said in an official press statement. "It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
At the time of this publication, it has not been revealed what roles Nyong’o and Christie will be playing in Episode 7. The only thing for certain is that it will be thrilling to see the two actresses holding their own with veterans Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford, all slated to return in the sequel. In March newcomers John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow and Adam Driver were announced to be part of the cast.
Star Wars: Episode 7 is expected for release in theatres on December 18, 2015.
