Actor Leonardo DiCaprio donates $3.4 million to Ecuador

According to this teleSUR article, the funds are going towards several environmental groups, which include one that DiCaprio has worked with the victims of the Chevron oil disaster. $3.4 million has been promised by the actor for causes in Ecuador.

His foundation’s official website indicated that the money will “empower indigenous people in the Amazon,” and they will subsequently support a collaboration between four indigenous tribes in the region, which will stand against oil and timber interests.

Leonardo DiCaprio recently took home the Golden Globe for “Best Actor in a Drama” for his raw portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant, which was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. It has been dubbed as the “first Oscar-worthy film of 2016” by Digital Journal.
