article imageJoan Rivers in intensive care after she stops breathing

By Nancy Houser     Aug 28, 2014 in Entertainment
New York - Joan Rivers, 81, quit breathing during a surgery she was having on her vocal cords early Thursday morning.
In critical condition and unconscious, she was rushed to New York's Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Emergency medical help was dispatched to 201 E. 93rd St. at 9:40 a.m., with Rivers in “cardiac and respiratory arrest” at the scene. “She’s not conscious, but she’s stable,” said an obviously distraught Graham Reed, the comedian’s assistant. Reed refused to provide any details when approached by a reporter. It is unclear whether she was breathing on her own or not when she entered the hospital, but she is now listed in stable condition in intensive care.
Born on June 8, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Joan was named Joan Alexandra Molinsky. A Jewish Russian immigrant, she began her career as a serious actress but quickly moved up to a sharp-tongued comedian, writer, and actress.
Joan Rivers has recently been actively promoting her new book, also in Kindle form for Kindles and smart phones, "Diary of a Mad Diva," at the Time & Life building in Manhattan, New York. USA reports the book as a feast on the politically incorrect.

According to Barnes and Noble, "Her daughter Melissa's Christmas gift offered her octogenarian the ultimate invitation: be even more completely uncensored than usual. The veteran comic mom responded to the challenge with predictable aplomb, practically searing the pages with scathing comments about cohorts, celebrities, family, and, not least, herself. Hilarious; definitely funnier than botox."
At the time of the book openings, she was very active and in good health. Other current projects she is working on are the WE TV Reality show, "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?" and a weekly talk show she hosts in her bedroom, "In Bed with Joan."
"Rivers has been criticized numerous occasions for making jokes that are either insensitive or about serious matters," reports ASK. However, these are the very things that make Joan Rivers who she is today. There is nothing she will not approach or answer to, which makes her the 100% Mad Diva herself!
Rivers lives in Malibu, California, with her daughter, Melissa, and grandson.
