article imageJimmy Carter, Joan Rivers and 'Frozen' music get Grammy nods

By Tim O'Brien     Dec 6, 2014 in Entertainment
Sure, the Grammys honor the best in music, but there are other categories that may not get the same attention. Those major awards get the headlines, but a few other categories are worthy, too.
For example, Jimmy Carter is nominated and so is the late Joan Rivers. So, let's go.
With 83 categories, these ones may get overlooked.
Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media
"American Hustle"
"Get On Up"
"Guardians of the Galaxy"
"The Wolf of Wall Street"
Notes: How fun. Movies winning Grammys. Not really but this is nice because it may mean the great soundtrack from "Guardians of the Galaxy" wins something. Music surely helps movie box office.
Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media
"Gone Girl"
"The Grand Budapest Hotel"
"Saving Mr. Banks"
Notes: OK, "Saving Mr. Banks" is here and so is "Gravity." Must read those Grammy rules again.
Best Song Written For Visual Media
"The Lego Movie" - “Everything Is Awesome!!!” (Tegan and Sara ft. The Lonely Island)
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" - “I See Fire” (Ed Sheeran)
"Glen Campbell, I’ll Be Me" - “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” (Glen Campbell)
"Frozen" - “Let It Go” (Idina Menzel)
"Her" - “The Moon Song” (Scarlett Johansson & Joaquin Phoenix)
Notes: "Her" and this "Hobbit," got it. Darn those qualifying periods.
Best Spoken Word Album
"Actors Anonymous" - James Franco
"A Call to Action" - Jimmy Carter
"Carsick: John Waters Hitchhikes Across America" - John Waters
"A Fighting Chance" - Elizabeth Warren
"Diary of a Mad Diva" - Joan Rivers
"We Will Survive: True Stories of Encouragement, Inspiration and the Power of Song" - Gloria Gaynor
Notes: What a wild group to have in one category. From a current hot property politician to a former president. They meet up with a goofball actor and a deceased comedian. Oh, there's more, but it is you turn to match them up.
Best Musical Theater Album
"Beautiful: The Carole King Musical"
"A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder"
"Hedwig and The Angry Inch"
"West Side Story"
Notes: No, it is not the 1960s, that is "West Side Story."
Best Comedy Album
“Weird Al” Yankovic - "Mandatory Fun"
Jim Gaffigan - "Obsessed"
Louis CK - "Oh My God"
Patton Oswalt - "Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time"
Sarah Silverman - "We Are Miracles"
Notes: Joan Rivers is not here, but in that other category. OK, let's move on because listening to her read must be better.
The Grammys will be handed out in February, and hopefully, it will not take as long as the nominations did today.
