article imageInterview: Actor Andrew Bowen talks new feature film 'Po' Special

By Markos Papadatos     May 5, 2016 in Entertainment
Actor Andrew Bowen chatted with Digital Journal about his role as Jack in the feature film "Po." He also shares his advice for aspiring actors.
On his portrayal of Jack in the feature film Po, he said, "I can't talk about it in too much detail. I promised John Asher, the director, I wouldn't give too much away (when you see the film you'll understand why) but Jack plays a very important role in Po's (played incredibly in the film by Julian Feder) imagination and journey in the film. One of the films narratives gives audiences a very unique, original and magical glimpse of Autism 'through the eyes' of a child in the spectrum. Jack plays an important role in Po's journey and it was one of the most fun and creative experiences I've ever had the honor of doing as an actor. It's not often you get to play five different incarnations of the same character in one film. Po's already won three Best Picture and two Best Acting awards on the festival circuit so it's really exciting to know people are getting to see the film. It's really superb."
On working with Uma Thurman in The Gift, he said it was an "absolute honor." "Uma's super cool and such a great actress, I can't wait to work with her again. You'd think with the body of work she's had in her career that she might have some kind of ego but it's not the case at all. She's wicked nice, funny, totally grounded and very giving and present as an actor. She really cares about the material and it shows. We both loved the piece and found this great chemistry together. So happy with how the piece turned too... So magical and sweet. Lot of great talent involved in making The Gift," he said.
Each day, Bowen is motivated by his family. "Seeing my kids and wife everyday. Making them and my friends laugh. I know that sounds sappy but it's true. The relationships we have and the people in our lives that we love and care about are the only things that really matter. I mean, 'fame' or 'success' isn't gonna mean anything when you are on your death bed. What will matter is the people sitting around that you that you got to love," he said.
Regarding his plans for the future, he responded, "Sleep, sex, whisky and making tons of money! I work in the craziest and most un-predictable profession on EARTH where the word "plans" don't exist. My life changes on a dime, so I plan to keep walking forward, do the best work I can and stay positive and happy. If I'm lucky that will involve a couple of great new roles, some lucrative bookings, making some new friends, quality time with my wife and kids and hopefully a few moments to enjoy the sunset and a nice summer breeze."
His inspiring advice for aspiring actors is as follows: "As long as you love what you do, anything is possible." "Network, network, network. Just like any profession, it makes a big difference who you know. You'll be amazed at the people you meet waiting in line or sitting on a plane. Mainly, follow your heart, keep learning and pushing yourself, be kind, respect your crew (it is where you will find some of your best friends) and be grateful and humble for ever win... even the small ones. You are and always will be 'once in a lifetime' so make it count," he said.
For his fans, he concluded, "Thank you so much for all your support and love. You rock!"
