The final one-hour episode of the Indian mythological TV series Mahabharat brought the show to an end on August 16. The show was being aired on the Star Plus TV channel.
The major actors shared fond memories and waxed nostalgic about the experience of shooting for the show, which combined new age technology and innovative costumes to retell the ancient epic, which is almost considered on par with the Hindu scriptures in India.
The final day of shooting took place on August 12, and wrapped up the series. Some of the cast members are said to have headed off to the temple of Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi, while some headed for a short vacation. Pooja Sharma, who plays Draupadi, one of the strongest female character in Hindu literature, tweeted on August 12, "Last Day Today Mahabharat Set :( Miss U All Are U Excited Today Last Episode On Mahabharat @StarPlus Feeling Happy Rain Rain Come To Day"
Actor Anoop Singh Thakur, who plays the visually challenged king Dhritarashtra in the show, said it has been a learning experience. "I always believe that hard work pays off. The workshops, action trainings, speech and language classes, wearing those heavy costumes had to work on our support. I couldn't have asked for more with a grand show with such an impressive character to play," Anoop said.
Ajay Mishra, who plays the role of Sanjay, the king's advisor and charioteer is happy with the recognition that the show has brought him. "I had to really work hard to do justice to this important character of Sanjay, who has the gift of seeing events at a distance, granted by sage Vyasa."
Ajay and Anoop have developed a close friendship off-screen as well. "My friendship with Anoop Singh Thakur is as intense as seen onscreen. I keep calling him Maharaj [king] off screen and it will indeed be sad to watch Mahabharat go off air," Ajay said.
