Los Angeles - The 67th Emmy Awards will be handed Sept. 20. But, many winners were announced at a gala last night (Sept. 12) in downtown Los Angeles
It was the night when the other categories, so to speak, get awarded. These include reality host, commercial and guest actors and actresses in shows. It also involves hairstyle, makeup, camera angles and the like. It is a big night, fresh with a red carpet event, too. The show will air on FX Sept. 19, the night before the main event, the 67th Emmys Awards.
HBO leads the race already in the quest for the most as the current season of television get honored. HBO has bagged 29 so far, with NBC netting 11 and FX has eight. "Games of Thrones" heads into the big night with eight trophies and "American Horror Story: Freak Show" currently has five wins.
For the networks that are breaking the mold of how TV hows are being watched has Netflix and Amazon Instant Video with three each.
For reality host, it went to Jane Lynch again for "Hollywood Game Night," which looks and acts more like a game show than reality, but so goes the Emmys. They try to keep up with trends and the like and often add categories and invent new ones. So, like the Grammys, they can get a bit tedious and watered down.
Also included in the event was the presentation of the Governors Award and the Syd Cassyd Founders Award. Nancy Dubuc received the Governors Award and Spike Jones Jr. was awarded the Syd Cassyd Founders Award. "As a producer, I've handed out about 1,600 of these. This is better," Jones noted.
Fresh off its Oscar win, "Citzenfour" also grabbed an Emmy last night, too.
A few categories worthy of note include:
Outstanding guest actor in a drama, Reg. E. Cathey, "House of Cards"
Outstanding guest actress in a drama, Margo Martindale, "The Americans"
Outstanding guest actress in a comedy, Joan Cusack, "Shameless"
Outstanding guest actor in a comedy, Bradley Whitford, "Transparent"
Outstanding variety special, "Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special," NBC
Outstanding unstructured reality program, "Deadliest Catch," Discovery
Outstanding structured reality program, "Shark Tank," ABC
