article imageGame of Thrones season 5 expanding filming locations in Dalmatia

Split - Applications for extras are being invited for season 5 of the popular HBO Game of Thrones series in Croatia, including new locations in Dalmatia.
The love affair between Croatia and popular HBO series Game of Thrones looks set to continue into 2015, according to a report on a local Split portal on July 1, 2015, which said that the show's producers are looking for extras in previous locations Split and Dubrovnik, as well as a new location on the Adriatic coast for 2015, Sibenik.
Applications for casting are now being received by Embassy Films, with all applications for the three cities required by a deadline of July 10. While the only three locations mentioned so far are Sibenik, Split and Dubrovnik, Game of Thrones staff have been looking inland in Dalmatia for additional sites, which could yet be added, as confirmed by Imotski Tourist Board director, Luka Kolovrat:

Imotski Tourist Board
"The production team from The Game of Thrones has been to two meetings in Imotski, and the possibility of filming in Imotski has indeed been discussed. As far as “our side” is concerned, everyone in the Tourist Board, city administration and the management of Imotski football club is willing to do their part and meet all the demands of the production because this would be excellent publicity for the entire region. The locations for the shooting that were discussed are the Topana fortress and our football stadium, which some foreign blogs included in the list of 20 weirdest stadiums in the world. The decision has not yet been made, however. Imotski is not the only potential location and all we can do now is hope that they will choose us, even though just being an option has been great publicity."
Game of Thrones tourism is still in its infancy in Croatia, but tourism experts there recognise its potential. In an interview with Digital Journal earlier this year, Central Dalmatia Tourist Board director Josko Stella explained how the tourist board is helping promote it:

Vetus Itinera
"The filming of Game of Thrones was obviously a great opportunity for the region, and at the recent fair in Barcelona, we brought the actual throne (OK, perhaps a copy...), as well as 10,000 maps of the county showing filming locations with descriptions, from which we received great feedback."
Filming of season 4 in the Central Dalmatian region has spawned new Game of Thrones tours of varying substance and quality, and this Digital Journalist accompanied the launch of the most comprehensive, by Vetus Itinera, which culminated in a banquet in the imposing Klis Fortress outside Split. With the expanded filming locations for 2015, Game of Thrones tourism in Croatia is set to stay.
