Former Playboy Playmate and ‘Baywatch’ lifeguard Brande Roderick (Includes interview)

Singer and Dukes of Hazzard actor turned filmmaker John Schneider has quite a few projects in the pipeline, one of which is Anderson Bench, a film he wrote, directed and executively produced (his regular collaborator Alicia Allain produced). Schneider also stars in the movie as “Dispatcher,” alongside Brande Roderick who plays Megan Bench.

“Well, I’ve known John for quite a few years – we do the autograph signing cicuit together – and one day he came up when we were working together and said: ‘I think you’d be perfect for this role in my movie,’ recalls Brande (pronounced “Brandy”) explaining how she ended up on board, “and I was really excited.

“He sent me the script and I read it, and I didn’t know whether to be flattered or insulted because the character is completely hideous! She’s an awful woman, but the role was so much fun to play because being able to play someone who’s the complete opposite of you is great.

“Working with John is so relaxing and it’s such a wonderful atmosphere. It’s a real family-like atmosphere when you go to set – when you work with John and Alicia. Everybody has a great time, lots of laughs.”

“She’s an invalid, so that was kinda interesting,” continues Ms. Roderick, married to former NFL linebacker Glenn Cadrez since 2007, going into more detail about her character. “Actually, one of the scenes was really hard to do because the main character, Anderson, has to throw me over his shoulder and I’m trying to resist.

“In the script, it said ‘kicking and screaming,’ but obviously I can’t kick because I’m an invalid! Trying to break away from somebody and resist the temptation to use your legs to kick is so hard. We had to keep doing take after take and finally we did it, but it was a hard scene to do.”

Might Brande, who appeared on Celebrity Apprentice Season 2 work with John Schneider again on future cinematic releases? “Yeah, absolutely,” she replies. “They called me about another project that starts shooting in May.”

From 2000 to 2001, Brande played Leigh Dyer in Baywatch Hawaii, a Baywatch spin-off starring David Hasselhoff. What was that like? “That was the best job I’ve ever had… I got to live in Hawaii, I formed so many friendships. Every day I got to drive through the pineapple fields to get to set. I stood on the beach all day with gorgeous men and went swimming in the ocean. How could you ask for a better job than that?!”

In 2001, Brande Roderick was Playboy Magazine‘s Playmate of the Year. “What a great time of my life. I had so many wonderful experiences and that was really a platform for everything I’ve done since then,” she observes, looking back on her career as a nude model.

“That was pretty much the first thing I did, with the exception of a couple of TV shows – like 90210 and Love Boat. Playboy was a real stepping stone for me. Very fond memories.”
