article imageFans react to title of new Batman–Superman movie

Fans have reacted negatively to the official title for the upcoming Warner Bros. "Man of Steel" sequel, expected to be released in 2016.
As already reported by Digital Journal's Michael Thomas, the film is called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
In his Op-Ed piece, Thomas asks, "Why 'v.' instead of 'versus'? The choice makes it seem like two of DC's most famous superheroes are involved in a civil lawsuit. And could anything be more cheesy than 'Dawn of Justice'? It seems counterintuitive that justice would just now happen considering Superman and Batman have been doing a fine job of bringing it in their respective cities."
Dawn of Stupid Movie Titles
Thomas is not alone, either: According to BBC News, reaction from fans to the title has generally been one of disappointment, with one, Joe Vargas, quoted as saying, "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Stupid Movie Titles."
Another, Joshua Ovenshire, wrote, "Man of Steel 2 is called 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'," pointing out that, "Batman is the first word in the title?" and adding, perfectly logically, "Is this even a Superman sequel now?"
Man of Steel 2 was confirmed as going ahead in June 2013 and, up till now, has often been referred to as Batman vs. Superman. As with Man of Steel (2013), the now-titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is being directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen).
Henry Cavill (The Tudors) reprises his role as Superman from Man of Steel while Ben Affleck (Argo) has been cast as Batman.
Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) has joined the cast as Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot (Asfur) as Wonder Woman, while Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) plays Alfred.
Warner Bros. has launched an official website for the new film, which is scheduled for a US release of May 6, 2016.
No official trailers have yet been released, although, last week , Snyder tweeted a first-look photograph of Afleck in costume as Batman, standing alongside a smoke-shrouded Batmobile.
A spoof trailer was released, however, by It's Big!, in which Superman and Batman are portrayed as being gay for each other!
