A new drama chronicling part of the life of the well-known actor and "Doctor Who" star Tom Baker, is in the works, it has emerged.
According to an article in Digital Fix, The Letter, is a one-off drama to be “centered around the early life of Tom Baker.”
Digital Fix goes on to surmise, “From the list of characters involved it will follow Tom's early years as a builder before being cast as Doctor Number Four and will follow through to the present day (given the fact that Matt Smith and Steven Moffat are listed).”
In the mid-seventies Tom Baker, at the age of 40, became only the fourth actor to portray the Doctor on television, when he was cast to succeed Jon Pertwee in the BBC’s long-running science-fiction drama series, Doctor Who.
Baker went on to play the Fourth Doctor for seven seasons, from 1974 to 1981, notching up more adventures than his three predecessors and all of his successors. To date, 13 actors have portrayed the Doctor on television, with the latest, Peter Capaldi, due to commence his run later this month.
Since leaving the show, Baker has returned to Doctor Who on television on a couple of occasions: Dimensions in Time (1993) and The Day of the Doctor (2013).
That latter, which celebrated the show’s fiftieth anniversary, also starred Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt, all as the TARDIS-time-travelling Doctor.

Now 80, Tom Baker, for the past few years, has also returned to the role of the Fourth Doctor in a number of Doctor Who audio dramas — first, for the BBC and, latterly, for Big Finish Productions — adding dozens of new Fourth Doctor adventures.
As for The Letter, as reported by Digital Fix, filming will take place over the next few months, with producers currently embarking on a casting call; details of which can be found on the To Be Seen website.
Meanwhile, the Doctor Who itself returns to TV screens and selected cinemas around the world on Saturday, August 23, when the much-anticipated Season 8 begins with the feature-length adventure, Deep Breath, with Peter Capaldi in the title role.
