Chicago - Ryan and Roland Carroll, Chicago-born producer brothers, are re-introducing the second generation of the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz novels via this Friday’s public release of the animated film “Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return."
The animated film is the first in a series of new movies based upon the Oz books written by Roger S. Baum, the great-grandson of original Oz writer L. Frank Baum.
Ryan Carroll is one third of production company Summertime Entertainment, which is behind the new animated feature. Carroll and his brother, both Rogers Park-bred and Mather High School graduates with deep roots in Chicago’s theater community, got to work along with Bonne Radford (who helped found DreamWorks Animation).
The star-studded cast of voices include Glee’s Lea Michele as Dorothy, Jim Belushi as the Lion and Dan Aykroyd as the Scarecrow. Bryan Adams wrote four songs for the soundtrack.
The brothers, now based in Los Angeles, deliberately wanted the feature to retain a Midwestern feel.
The film will be playing in U.S. theaters on Friday, May 9th and in the United Kingdom on May 23rd.
