Torchwood and
Doctor Who star "will will play a central role in the new series."
Eve Myles first appeared in Doctor Who in 2005, as , in the
Mark Gatiss-penned episode
The Unquiet Dead. However, she is best known for playing Gwen Cooper in
Torchwood, a
Doctor Who spin-off series that also stars
John Barrowman as Captain John Harkness.
She is also well known for her long-running role, Ceri, in the BBC Cymru Wales drama series,
Belonging, and for playing the eponymous lead in BBC One's
Frankie.

Earlier this month, ITV announced that David Tennant (
The Escape Artist), Olivia Colman (
The Iron Lady), Jodie Whittaker (
Attack the Block), Andrew Buchan (
The Fixer) and Arthur Darvill (
The White Queen) — all of whom appeared in the first season — would all be returning for season 2.
James D'Arcy (
Cloud Atlas), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (
RoboCop) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (
Bad Education) are also joining the crime drama for its second run.

Myles becomes the latest
Doctor Who alumni to be involved with
Broadchurch, with Tennant, Colman and Darvill — as well as
David Bradley (
An Adventure in Space and Time) — all having appeared in the BBC's long-running science-fiction series. Meanwhile,
Broadchurch creator/writer Chris Chibnall is also a regular writer on
Doctor Who, while one-time
Who director Euros Lyn took on such duties for the ITV series.
Tennant is currently in the States, where he is recreating his
Broadchurch role for
the US version of the show. Renamed
Gracepoint, he has adopted an American accent for the remake.
