article image'Breaking Bad' director Michelle MacLaren to helm 'Wonder Woman'

Michelle MacLaren will become one of just a few women to direct a superhero movie when she takes the helm of the upcoming 'Wonder Woman.' The film won't be made and released until 2017 but MacLaren has already signed on.
Warner Brothers is making the film, based on the DC comics story of an Amazon warrior princess of Greek mythology. They have been on the lookout for a director for some time, reports say, and the company was specifically trying to fill the chair with a female.
With her experience, MacLaren seems a great choice.
A Canadian, MacLaren has found her more recent success in the film and TV business by directing 11 episodes of the acclaimed show 'Breaking Bad,' a show that she was also a producer on (she won producing Emmy's for the show in both 2013 and 2014).
McLaren has also directed four episodes of 'Game of Thrones' and three of 'The Walking Dead.' She was a producer of 46 episodes of the 'X-Files' and directed one episode of that show; she was also a part of another Chris Carter show, the short-lived 'Harsh Realm,' a story set in the world of a computer game.
Writing credits on 'Wonder Woman' are split between four writers. Michael Goldenberg has worked the genre before, he wrote 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,' 'Peter Pan' and 'Contact'. Another writer on the project is William M. Marston, a writer on the TV series 'Wonder Woman.'
The last woman to direct a Superhero film was Lexi Alexander, who brought in 'Punisher: War Zone' in 2008. The only other female director of a film in this genre that DJ was able to find is Rachel Talalay, who directed 'Tank Girl' in 1995.
The 49-year-old MacLaren is currently directing an episode of the TV series "Better Call Saul.' Israeli actress Gal Gadot has been signed to play 'Wonder Woman.'
