Daniel Craig will reprise the role of James Bond in the upcoming film, titled ‘Spectre.’ It was revealed Thursday he will be joined by Christoph Waltz and Monica Bellucci among others.
It’s become tradition that each new James Bond production is launched via a press conference. With principal photography and seven months of shooting scheduled to begin Monday, today’s announcement from Pinewood Studio’s famed 007 sound stage — or “where budgets go to die” — was right on cue.
Sam Mendes returns to the helm after directing the franchise’s most successful picture, Skyfall. The event began with a montage of Daniel Craig’s adventures as the secret agent before Mendes revealed the title of the film that has simply been referred to as Bond 24 until now: Spectre. “Those of you who have some knowledge of the Bond franchise and the legend of Bond will probably have some idea of what that refers to, but I couldn’t possibly comment,” quipped Mendes.

In Ian Fleming’s novels, SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) is an evil terrorist organization that has been absent from the film franchise since the ‘60s. Though according to the movie’s brief summary, it’s set to make a comeback: “A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.”
Rejoining Craig are members of the Whitehall Brigade, Ralph Fiennes as M (having taken over for Dame Judi Dench in the previous picture), Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny, Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner and Ben Whishaw as Q. Sherlock’s Andrew Scott will join their crew as Denbigh.
The “Bond ladies” were expectedly confirmed to be Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra and Blue is the Warmest Color’s Lea Seydoux as Madeleine Swann. Dave Bautista, who is just coming off the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, will play Mr. Hinx. And the “final and most important member” revealed by Mendes verified a rumour that’s been swirling in recent weeks that Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz is joining the cast. “I could not be happier than to be having him in this cast,” said the director.
The film’s title suggests the accompanying buzz that Waltz will portray Bond’s nemesis Blofeld may also be true, but Mendes failed to name the actor’s character at the press conference — though the film’s official Twitter account was a little more forthcoming: “And Christoph Waltz as Oberhauser!” Perhaps a ruse to keep fans in further suspense? Only time will tell. Of course all will be revealed when the film is released November 6, 2015.

And last but not least, the all-important “non-human” cast member — Bond’s new car. The Aston Martin DB10 was designed in collaboration with filmmakers and the car company, continuing a 50-year relationship between the character and the automobile.
In addition to shooting at the designated studio lot, the production will travel to London, Rome, Mexico City, Tangier and Erfoud in Morocco, and Sölden, Austria.
The screenplay was written by the Skyfall team of John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Also returning are production designer Dennis Gassner and costume designer Jany Temime. New additions to the crew include director of photography Hoyte van Hoytema and editor Lee Smith, who both worked on Interstellar.
