American singer and writer Bob Dylan visited Manny Pacquiao Thursday at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym in Hollywood while the Filipino superstar was preparing for his upcoming rematch with WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on April 12.
Dylan, whose real name is Robert Allen Zimmerman, started off with country music in the 1960s and later popularized the songs "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin."
According to Pacquiao's publicist, Fred Sternberg, Dylan called up first and showed up with a friend at the Gym.
"Manny sparred eight different rounds with two different fighters while Dylan was there," says Sternburg. "He stayed for an hour and sat on a bench that you'd use to lift weights.
"Before and after the sparring, Dylan posed for photographs with anyone that asked and signed autographs. Some of the other fighters took selfies with him. He accommodated everybody and smiled the whole time. But, my God, it was Bob Dylan. It was like seeing one of the apostles." Sternburg said. Read more.
Pacquiao was glad to have been paid a visit by Dylan. He tweeted their photos to prove that they indeed met at the Gym. Click to view photos.
The 72-year-old popular singer, who received a Medal of Freedom from US President Barack Obama in May 2012 for his civil rights and anti-war advocacy through his kind of music, is still active in his musical career.
Starting March 31, Dylan will be touring Japan with his band until April 23 and will do some shows in Hawaii from April 27-29. He and his band will proceed to Europe for a series of engagements which will last until July.
Pacquiao, who is returning to the US after his successful ring return in Macau, China against Brandon Rios following his controversial loss to Bradley in June 2012 and his stunning defeat against Juan Manuel Marquez later in December of the same year, will face Bradley in a rematch on April 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Freddie Roach, who has been training Pacquiao for over a decade has been angling a knockout win for Pacquiao in the upcoming rematch with Bradley.
But Bradley, who is undefeated in 31 professional fights said Pacquiao is no longer the same fighter he was prior to their last encounter and believes he will win again in their April 12 rematch.
