By AR Vasquez     Sep 29, 2014 in Entertainment
Vancouver - Belly dance and Middle Eastern music in Vancouver's inaugural Safar Middle Eastern Dance and Music Conference and Gala Show.
Digital Journal had the pleasure to attend the gala show and interview the special guest dancers and musician on the second night of the conference.
The conference was filled with informative and fun workshops for dancers interested in Middle Eastern dance and music. Its mission was to provide a safe, fun environment for all styles of Middle Eastern Dancers to show their work in front of an expert panel of judges, obtain valuable feedback, make friends and compete to win a title. The conference was open to both women and men at any level of dance experience, in any style of Middle Eastern Dance.
"The conference encompasses everything about belly dancing such as workshops for dance movement, academic lectures around Middle Eastern culture and music. Since the International Belly Dance Conference of Canada doesn't run anymore so I thought that there needs to be something in Canada that touches in all those areas so I thought I guess we had to it." - Maki Natori, Noor Dance Company
The Safar Conference of Middle Eastern Dance and Music featured special instructors Yasmina Ramzy, Lulu, DaVid from Scandinavia and Dr. George Sawa who taught workshops about the art and magic of Middle Eastern Dance and Music.
The three-day weekend had over 50 hours of activities which included:
36 hours of dance and music instruction, 15 hours of lectures and panel discussions, a full suite of vendors, a dance competition, Closing Night Show and a Gala Show.
