article imageBattered and bruised, Harrison Ford lives to fly another day

By Nancy Houser     Mar 13, 2015 in Entertainment
Harrison Ford’s superb flying abilities saved his life when he crash-landed due to engine failure, March 5, 2016, on a L.A. golf course. With engine trouble at take-off, Ford had no choice but to make an emergency landing.
Ford was lucky enough to land directly in a golf course being played by two medical doctors, who were in absolute shock at finding out who they were treating when he landed. Ford’s celebrity-chef son, Ben Ford, tweeted that his dad had a scraped arm and a cut to his forehead, but so far no internal injuries have been found other than a possible broken leg or ankle.
“At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man. Thank you all for your thoughts and good vibes for my dad.”
The World War II Vintage plane that Ford was piloting was pretty much destroyed when it landed, after stalling right after it had taken off. Calling to report he was having engine problems, he then maneuvered the plane into a crash-landing that only someone with expert experience could have done, When in the air, Ford was advised by the air traffic control audio to make 360-degree loops in the air, identified by the National Transportation Safety Board as a Ryan Aeronautical ST before it crashed at 2:30 p.m. on March 5, 2015.
At the age of 72, Harrison Ford is not only a famous actor but is well-known as a longtime aviation enthusiast, licensed to fly both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. He is well-known as using his pilot skills, acquired in his mid-50s, to assist in search-and-rescue efforts that involved a young teenage Boy Scout in southern Yellowstone National Park. “Boy, you sure must have earned a merit badge for this one,” Ford told the cold and hungry teenager after whisking him to safety.
