Amy Winehouse documentary, ‘Amy,’ shatters box office records

The motion picture garnered $222,500 from just six screenings, which would average out to $37,083. This makes it the highest among all released over the weekend, as well as one of the highest limited debuts of the year, proving that it is a true force to be reckoned with.

Thanks to the commercial success of these early national sales, “Amy,” it is looking to be one of greatest documentaries of the past decade. For the most part, it has received favorable reviews from fans and music critics, where it has a 97 percent positive rank from Rotten Tomatoes, as well as warm feedback from the audience. Its run-time is 90 minutes, and it has been rated R for drug use and language. The documentary will expand nationwide in the forthcoming weekend.

Asif Kapadia served as its director, and it features commentary from veteran music star Tony Bennett, Mark Ronson, her parents, and her long-time friend and manager Nick Shymansky.

The documentary deals with how Amy Winehouse became one of the biggest music stars in British history, with only two albums to her credit. Her voice was compared to Billie Holiday meets Dinah Washington meets Sarah Vaughan. While her talent propelled her to fame, it was her chaotic personal lifestyle that always made headlines.
