Actor Blake Cooper Griffin talks new films and acting projects (Includes interview)

Over the last couple of years, he has worked with such esteemed actors as Helen Hunt and Cuba Gooding Jr., and he is very diverse in the roles that he selects.

He has a role in the feature film Ride, out May 1, written by Oscar winner Helen Hunt. “Ride was a fantastic script. It is poignant. That was a real dream of mine to work with Helen Hunt. I was pinching myself on set. She had done everything. When you are working with somebody who is so good at what they do, I learned that it is very easy. That was an awesome experience for me,” he said.

Griffin is also featured in the movie Love Is All You Need?, which is based off the award-winning short film from Kim Rocco Shields, that deals with the horrors of bullying. “I am so excited to be a part of Love Is All You Need? I read the script, and I immediately called my manager at 9 p.m. that night and told him that I had to be a part of the project. We followed up on the audition and after I met the director [and writer], I wrote a letter to them and said I would do anything to play the part of Bill Bradley. I let them know how good I thought the script was, and how moved I was by the story, and then it happened. I was really thrilled to be a part of it,” he said.

He was also in the final season of the hit Disney television series Jessie — fans can catch him on April 17 — which was a “blast” for the Hollywood actor. “Versatility is what I strive for as an actor, and what I want do. That is what is so exciting about it. I was 100 percent unprepared for how much fun I was going to have on that show,” he said.

A South Carolina native, graduated from the School of Drama at the North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA), where he trained to become an accomplished acting professional. He subsequently signed with an agent and manager, who convinced him to move out to Los Angeles, in an effort to pursuing acting. “In Los Angeles, you get to do different things every day. A few days ago, I went to a Lakers game, last night I went to a comedy show and this past weekend, I went to the beach. They are a lot of different shows to see. I love being in Los Angeles,” he said.

Griffin also starred as the Prince opposite Broadway actress Ashley Brown in a concert production of Snow White at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. “I did that concert down town, and I sang there, which was awesome. I got to work with a lot of Broadway veterans and it was a lot of fun,” Griffin said.

He has made a number of prime-time appearances, which include memorable roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Mad Love and 90210, among others. “When I was a kid, I remember my mom used to watch 90210, so it was a trip that I got to be on it. That cast was really fantastic and warm to me. It was a great job to be a part of ,” he said.

On his inspirations to pursue acting, he said, “I used to watch movies, and I would memorize them from the beginning to the end, and I would recite them. I wanted to do this for so long, and I have stuck with it and pursued it. I like auditioning, even though it may not be an easy thing. I have come to embrace auditioning a whole lot more, since that is what gets you the job.”

For aspiring actors, the Los Angeles heartthrob concluded, “Surrounded yourself with good people, because this is a tough industry, so I think it is important to surround yourself with people who will bring you up, and people who are going to tell you the truth.”
