AC/DC confirms Axl Rose as new lead singer

The legendary Australian band announced in its website that Guns N’ Roses front man Rose will replace longtime singer Brian Johnson when it resumes touring next month starting in Europe.
The announcement came just hours before Rose and Guns N’ Roses founding members Slash and Duff McKagan were scheduled to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.
“We are dedicated to fulfilling the remainder of our touring commitments to everyone that has supported us over the years, and are fortunate that Axl Rose has kindly offered his support to help us fulfill this commitment,” the band said.
“AC/DC will resume their Rock Or Bust World Tour with Axl Rose joining on vocals.”
In February, the band was forced to cancel its 10 U.S. performances after doctors ordered Johnson to immediately stop touring or risk total hearing loss, saying it will look for a guest singer for the remaining dates.
“AC/DC band members would like to thank Brian Johnson for his contributions and dedication to the band throughout the years. We wish him all the best with his hearing issues and future ventures,” the band said.
“As much as we want this tour to end as it started, we understand, respect and support Brian’s decision to stop touring and save his hearing.”
AC/DC and Rose will start their partnership in Lisbon, Portugal on May 7 before embarking on 11 more shows across Europe until June 12. The band’s remaining U.S. performances cancelled earlier due to Johnson’s health condition will push through in later dates with Rose on vocals.
“The European stadium tour dates begin on May 7 in Lisbon, Portugal and run through June 12 in Aarhus, Denmark as previously announced (see below for full itinerary). Following this European run of dates with AC/DC, Axl Rose will head out on his Guns N Roses, Not In This Lifetime Summer Stadium Tour. The 10 postponed U.S shows will be rescheduled and announced imminently, also with Axl Rose,” AC/DC said.
Rose’s highly-anticipated Not In This Lifetime reunion tour with Slash and McKagan started in Las Vegas early this month. After the Coachella gig and Rose’s Europe stint with AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses will resume their 20-city outing in U.S. starting at Ford Field in Detroit on Jun 23.
