article image5 Fundamental Facts on Matt, Craig, Chris & Damien of 'The Voice' Special

By Earl Dittman     Dec 13, 2014 in Entertainment
You probably thought you knew everything about Matt McAndrew, Craig Wayne Boyd, Chris Jamison and Damien — the four finalists of 'The Voice.' As the countdown to the finale continues, the Final 4 offer up 5 truths you should know about each of them.
It's the Friday before the Season 7 finals of The Voice (Monday, December 15), and the four finalists — Team Adam's Matt McAndrew, Chris Jamison & Damien and Team Blake's Craig Wayne Boyd — have spent the past stress-filled week (each clocking in up 18-hours-a-day) preparing for the performances of their lives.
On this sunny L.A. morning, every single one of the ultra-talented gentlemen who make up The Voice Final 4 are in unbelievably cheerful spirits. In fact, they are downright giddy and playful, seemingly unnerved by the fact that they will be competing against each other for the title of "The Voice" in less than 48 hours.
Securing a rare moment to catch their collective breath, Matt, Chris, Damien and Craig are hanging out in The Voice wardrobe department, on the Universal Studios lot in Los Angeles. The guys are laughing and joking about, as they patiently wait to be individually fitted for the outfits they will be donning on Monday night's final competition round and the Tuesday final results/finale show — when the most talented singer of the competition will walk home with top honors.
This year's finale promises to be the best of the past seven seasons. It's a night that is set to include performances by English folk-rocker Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson playing "Uptown Funk" (which Chris covered), Hozier performing "Take Me To Church" (possibly with Matt?), a duet between Oscar-winning actress, singer and eternal dreamgirl Jennifer Hudson and Damien, plus plans for Craig to hit the stage with southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd.
While this particular Friday a.m. may be a rare chance for them to relax and blow off some steam — the proverbial calm before the storm — each of the talented gentlemen are mindful they are in the midst of something extraordinary. "This has all really been like a dream come true," tattooed-rocker Matt McAndrew (who began playing guitar at 11) says of his experience, thus far, on The Voice. "It's really what any artist would hope for — a chance like this. It's all been really, really awesome."
Damien (Lawson), echoes his fellow Coach Adam teammate's sentiments. "I'm truly grateful and just thankful to God that I even have an opportunity to be on a TV show like this," the former TSA agent-turned R&B crooner admits. "I have really been doing this for a long time, and I have heard 'NO' so many times. I'm really thankful, because there are plenty of people out there who are dying to be in the spot that I am. I'm just like, 'Just a couple of months ago, nobody even knew who I was other than family and close friends and now millions of people do.' It's incredible."
Okay, I digress, there's plenty of time for mindful reflection and thoughts about their futures when The Voice Season 7 winner and the two runner-ups are announced on Tuesday, December 16 (check back for exclusive, in-depth interviews with the citizens of Planet Earth's choice for this season's three top vocalists). Today, however, it's all about relaxing, being Zen and having some fun.

You've undoubtedly heard about how Matt teaches young kids to sing and play music, but did you know people think he resembles a big screen, web-slinging superhero? Bet you didn't realize that "wild card" Damien was once rejected by American Idol (their loss is our win). Surprisingly, when Damien hits the road for his first headlining tour (which should be happening any day soon), he's already figured out which five cities he has to visit.
Additionally, you might remember that Chris Jamison was considered "cute" by Gwen Stafani, when he first auditioned on The Voice, but were you cognizant of the fact the Pittsburgh-native has a steadfast go-to when he sings karoke? Finally, there's no doubt that country man's man Craig Wayne Boyd knows how to fish, hunt and play a mean guitar, but you would never have guessed this Texas-born-and-bred father of an adorable two-year-old son is also handy to have around the house at dinnertime.

If someone said they had to take all the tattoos off of your body, but you could keep one, which would it be? "I would keep my wolf tattoo, because it’s done by Thomas Hooper. He’s one of my favorite tattoo artists. It took me like two years to book it."
If producers from Hollywood wanted to do a movie about your life, what actor would you like to play you? "Who played Spiderman in the last movie? Oh...Andrew Garfield, because people tell me I look like him."
What is the strangest food combination you like to eat? "Bananas and hot sauce…believe me, I’ve done that!" (laughs)
What did you do right after your audition in front of The Voice judges? "I got off stage and I just started crying when they were doing the interview with me. It was really like a super emotional time for me. I got choked up on stage listening to the coaches positive feedback. But, it was affirming."
The subject matters are a heartbreak, a black eye, devotion and an umbrella. In less than 90 seconds, could you come up with a couple of lyric lines for a song incorporating some or all of the above subjects? "Heartbreak, black eye, devotion, umbrella...I could do that. But, I think a better one would be one about mistakes, bad Thai, emotions and Nutella." (laughs)
CHRIS JAMISON

What was the first album/CD you ever bought? "Dream Street by Dream Street! I couldn’t tell you any of the names of the guys in the group, though, minus Jesse McCartney. But, I loved it. I don't know if I still have it..."

Who is your biggest celebrity crush on? And, have you met her, yet? "Without a doubt, Jennifer Aniston. Have I met her? Yeah, right, me? I wish."
Do you remember how you felt after Gwen Stefani said you were a bit of a stud after your first audition song? "I felt like a lucky guy. (laughs) I was obviously taken back because she is a beautiful woman and very easy to look at, but I don’t know how to answer that without sounding like a complete flake. There’s no way to describe it — okay, it was awesome." (laughs)

Okay, this is probably a silly question, considering who you are singing with at the finale, but If the lead singer for any rock or country band had to take the night off and offered you the chance to take over the vocals for the night, which band would it be? "No question about it, (Lynyrd) Skynyrd! There is nothing silly about the truth."
What is the one thing about your coach, Blake Shelton, that you have discovered about him that most people would find surprising? "He really doesn’t understand electronics, even though he’s great at Twitter." (laughs)
They are doing a big movie about the life of Craig Wayne Boyd, so what Hollywood heartthrob should play you? "Wait, whose the guy who plays Thor? …Chris Hemsworth."

What is the coolest talent you have that isn't music related? "Well, no one else can decorate my house like me…or, I can cook. Actually, I'm a really good cook. That's a cool talent, right?"
DAMIEN

Alright, Craig said Chris Hemsworth and Matt mentioned Andrew Garfield as the actors who should play them in their big screen biopics. Okay, imagine the theater marquee, 'Flying High: The Damien Story starring...' Fill in the blank. (Chris and Craig begin yelling out suggestions. They decide on one. "Say, Will Smith!" the two recommend) "Okay...(laughs)...well, I guess I have to say Will Smith." (Matt, Craig and Chris enthusiastically applaud his answer)
If you were sent to live in isolation on a desert island and were allowed to take the entire album catalog of one artist or band, who would it be? "Hands down, I'd have to take Michael Jackson. I've gotta have my MJ."
If you were granted one super power, what would you want it to be? "One, huh? I’d probably take Magneto’s (from X-Men) power. He can move metal and he can fly. That's a good combination."
If you were given a five-date, headlining world tour, what cities would you want to perform in? "There's a lot of audiences, across the world, that I'd love to sing for. But, I’d love to perform in New York, Los Angeles, New Orleans, London, and Dublin. They are all special to me for different reasons."
What is the one thing that we should really know about Adam Levine, that we have probably never read about in a magazine, that you personally discovered out about him? "The fact that his deodorant smells really, really good. I asked him if it was cologne, but he said it was his deodorant. I've got to get myself some so I can smell just like Adam Levine." (laughs)
