Review: ‘Wolverine’s #16’ is the most ‘Sinister’ issue of series

Marvel’s Wolverines #16 was released recently on Wednesday, April 29th, continuing the dangerous adventure of the “Wolverines” and surviving members of the new Weapon X program. Remember that James “Logan” Howlett aka Wolverine was killed off last year, where Mr. Sinister wanted to extract the adamantium from the corpse.

His chance was robbed by the X-Men, but he managed to steal some of Daken’s body parts.

I found Wolverines to be incredibly interesting to read because it follows Wolverine’s legacy after death, where a select group of those close to him were held captive by the Weapon X survivors until a cure is made for their conditions.

This has been one interesting roller coaster ride where the Wolverines were visited by Fang, who took some of the members on individual trips. I had a few laughs when one of the previous issues revealed Deadpool paying Fantomelle to retrieve Wolverine’s personal effects, which led to Deadpool trying to “replace” Wolverine only to end up in failure.

Junk is at the end of his rope and is incredibly pissed that Mystique has been incredibly secretive about her agenda by having people go on secret missions across the globe. Daken and X-23 had to join forces with Blade in the previous two issues when hunting down Siphon, who stole Daken’s healing factor.

Mystique set off something that allowed her to capture portal.

Shogun expresses his agreement with Junk, which is not surprising because he is one of the few people openly expressing distrust towards Mystique. I know Mystique has good intentions, but her methods are questionable.

Marvel Comics fans know that Mystique is one of the biggest schemers.

Mystique finds it difficult to find a cure without dealing with Mr. Sinister because of the growing distrust towards her.

What did I think of Wolverines #16?

Nuero is a total d-ck.

I agree with Daken’s point that Neuro is untrustworthy, which he is hesitant about the mission to rescue Skel and Endo. Junk counters by explaining that Skel and Endo are not bad. He’s right, too, since Skel and Endo are desperate to be cured.

The Arcadia Group’s appearance in this issue was an interesting surprise, but I was more surprised that they were shortly killed later. I was under the assumption that the Arcadia Group would serve as a new antagonist power.

It was shocking that the members were killed by Neuro, who revealed himself as being aligned with Mr. Sinister. That doesn’t surprise me at all, but I am curious about how Skel and Endo weigh into this.

Rhetorically asking, are they joining Mr. Sinister of their own free will or have they been brainwashed?

I felt Wolverines #16 was straightforward to read, which is always a good thing. This series let alone this issue felt like a transformation for Sabertooth and Daken. The former was affected by a morality change and is preparing to take on Wolverine’s mantle and the latter is slowly taking responsibility for his actions.

There is also a sense of gradual sibling bonding between Daken and X-23.

I’ll give Wolverines #16 a grade of A. I had a “holy sh-t” look on my face after seeing Mr. Sinister’s surprise appearance at the end of this issue.

I hope bad things happen to Neuro in the future.
