Former college football player turned country singer Sam Hunt did not get into music until he finished high school, and the rest is history.
"I was playing football, baseball and basketball my whole life. I started around six years old in Cedartown, Georgia, where I am from and that was great," he said.
He is now signed to MCA Nashville, which is home to such musical acts in country as David Nail, Kip Moore, Josh Turner and George Strait. "I am excited to be there," he said. "They are affiliated with the Universal Music Group, which has four labels."
Hunt joins the list of many country singers that are originally from Georgia, such as Jason Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, Colt Ford, Cole Swindell, Luke Bryan and countless others. "It's great. I am proud of be a part of the Georgia influences in country music," he said.
The former football quarterback is drawn to country music due to its songs, lyrics, images and their stories. "The songwriting in country music is so strong. That is what has always attracted me to it," he said.
As a songwriter, he co-penned the tune "Cop Car," which is country mega-star Keith Urban's current radio single, as well as country star Billy Currington's title cut "We Are Tonight."
Regarding his plans for the future, he shared, "I plan on touring a whole lot, since I have been writing. From here on out, I will be out travelling and playing live. When I finish my record in the next few months, I will continue to tour and play."
Hunt is driven each day thanks to his passion for songwriting. "The opportunity to do that motivates me the most," he said. "I always want to write the next song or idea, sound or vibe. I want to draw from life experiences that happened around them and sit down and take those emotions and put them in a song and share them with people. Hopefully they will connect with that same emotion that I felt. That is the most fulfilling thing for me," he said.
He manages to stay connected with his fans on Facebook and Twitter.
