Described by James Franco as “one of the best festivals in the States,” South by SouthWest is a convergence of music, film and interactive technologies where big name musicians, tech companies, and even an Academy Award-winning movie have premiered.
The 10-day event in Austin, Texas is the place where big names have started. In 1994 Hanson was discovered after an impromptu performance. In 2004, James Blunt was signed after a small performance, in 2009 the Academy Award-winning movie The Hurt Locker had its premiere, and FourSquare was launched.
Already this year, there have been interviews with big names such as Julian Assange. Speaking from the Ecuadorian embassy in London, Assange was interviewed via video conferencing, he warned SXSW audiences of a "military occupation of our civilian space" and spoke about government surveillance, life in the embassy which he likened to prison, and the future of the Internet. Edward Snowden is also set to appear in a similar-style interview.
For food enthusiasts and connoisseurs, Cronut® creator Dominque Ansel will be offering his new creation: Chocolate Chip Cookie Milk Shots. The Allison+Partners sponsored event will provide attendees with the perfect networking opportunity.

For those who have a few hours on hand, SXSW will be screening films throughout the 10-day event. The widely anticipated Veronica Mars movie, which smashed Kickstarter records, was premiered at the event. See the trailer below.
Also premiering this year at SXSW is Neighbors, a comedy starring Seth Rogan, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron and Dave Franco. See the trailer below.
For those of us not in Austin this week, musician 50 Cent will headline an exclusive concert which will be screened live on Hangw/ at 8 p.m. on March 11. 50 Cent describes the event: “I’m going to bring my fans behind the scenes and give the opportunity to those who couldn’t make it a chance to experience a concert at South by Southwest.”
